The London School for Social Entrepreneurs is the original SSE, founded by Michael Young in 1997. It has now been running tailored programmes of support and development for a decade, with significant success.
Based in Bethnal Green in East London, the London SSE developed and refined the learning methodology which has then been franchised around the country. It continues to be the test bed for new innovations and developments, as well as delivering programmes to increasingly large numbers of social entrepreneurs.
We provide training and opportunities to enable people to use their creative and entrepreneurial abilities more fully for social benefit. To achieve this goal we run practical learning programmes aimed at helping develop the individual entrepreneur and their organisation simultaneously: our approach, and belief, is that social change is people-powered, and that the most valuable assets and resources we have are human ones.
Our programmes involve
Action Learning- "learning by doing"
A student centred approach that incorporates structure and flexibility
Both of our programmes run over a 12 month duration
Weekly Programme
This programme meets once a week with the exception of a few 2 or 3 day sessions.
Block Programme
The block programme takes place every 2 weeks, but every 6 weeks there is a block of 3 days where the programme runs consecutively for study sessions to take place.
What qualifications do you need?
The SSE does not require applicants to have any specific qualifications.
We ask only that you are enthusiastic, determined and committed – driven by your cause or project as much as driving it!
How much does it cost?
SSE seeks to ensure that fees do not present a barrier to participation and works to involve disadvantaged people in its learning programme.
