I am a pratical professor. I like people, talking and listening to them. I want to work as long as it is fun and to make a differenc in the world.
Twelve years ago I set up Intergen as a social experiment. Its purpose was to make a positve diffference in the lives of pupils, teachers and older people. It still is, and after 12 years of developement and evlauation Intergen became a community interest company in 2009 so thats iits benefits could be shared across the UK.
The best way to find out more about Intergen CIC is to join us on our journey, you can start that by looking at our website:

Before you do that you might want to read what one of our Head teachers said about us.
" As Headteacher of Stretford High School, I was very keen to include Intergen as part of our Extended Schools/Community Cohesion Programme. Having other adults in the school has always benefitted the school community, but Intergen brings an added dimension. To see my students working with an older generation, talking about the past, present and the future has been delightful. My students engaged with Intergen members in a very different way from other members of staff; it was almost like a mutual adoption. What became clear to me as the programme progressed, was the benefit to Intergen members also. Working directly with students enabled them to see the younger generation in a different light and there was an increased understanding between the generations.
I fully endorse the Intergen Programme and would recommend it to other Headteachers and schools that are keen to embrace their community."

You might wnat to know why Steve Dewhurst, now 84, is still a volunteer at the school he joined when Intergen started. Steve has been there for 11 years . He told us that
" He joined Intergen to foster a deeper understanding between the older and younger generation and he hasn't been disappointed. He has been warmly wecomed by both staff and students and the voluntary work has been both interesting and enjoyable. He has worked extensively with both staff and students within the Design and Technology Faculty at SGS completing a wide variety of tasks including; statistical analysis of data, preparation of modelling materials, preparation of resources for citizenship lessons; help within food technology and sharing his lifetime and career experiences with students. He worked with History / Art on a Memories of Conflict project, where he shared his recollection of wartime Britain as a teenager, with Year 9 students.
He has every intention of continuing with his work at SGS and has particularly enjoyed his interactions with both staff and students."

This logo was developed by a pupil in one of our secondary schools. We held a competition open to all Intergen partner schools and asked pupils to develop a logo for us. This was the winner in 2002 and we have used it and valued it ever since .
