Cornwall SSE programme starts with 20 students

Today is the first day of the new SSE Cornwall, the most recent addition to the UK SSE Network. 20 students who have been selected to be on the first core programme are coming together for the first time in Penwith to get to know each other and learn more about what the next 9 months on the SSE programme will involve. 9 months of developing themselves and their organisation in tandem.

As with each SSE programme, the Cornish social entrepreneurs will benefit from:

- Expert Witnesses (social entrepreneurs with experience and knowledge)
- Project Visits (visiting social enterprises)
- Action Learning Sets (group support and learning methodology)
- 1:1 tutoring (focused business coaching)
- Residential (all current SSE students coming together for 3 day learning event)
- SSE online resources (connecting to information + other SSE students and Fellows)

The Cornwall School for Social Entrepreneurs is financially supported by investment from the Convergence European Social Fund (ESF) through Jobcentre Plus, and is working with a wide range of different partners in the county.

SSE Cornwall’s Development Manager Sally Heard says:
"The Cornwall SSE students all have fantastic ideas or organisations to help make change in their local community; some organisations will be set up during the programme and some that already exist will want to grow their organisations. A number of our students are unemployed or not working, or have recently been made redundant so this learning opportunity is the perfect time to set up or grow their social business. We have a programme packed full of inspiring speakers, tutorials and project visits and know this is going to be an exciting time for all involved”.

SSE-UK Chief Executive Alastair Wilson says:
"I'm delighted to see these new social entrepreneurs being supported in Cornwall to gain skills and create sustainable, effective organisations. My sincere congratulations to all those who have played a part in making this happen; and my best wishes to the social entrepreneurs starting the programme, who I hope will be the first group of many more to follow."
